Cantina Indigeno

IMG_6522.JPG

Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy

There isn't a more exciting producer in Abruzzo right now than Cantina Indigeno. They are childhood friends following a lineage of scrappy farmers that make wines to honor their own tastes and refocus the local terroir by embracing the wild side of unadulterated fermentation and a lighter touch on the skins. The wines are about pure pleasure and immediately energize the drinker. You'd think that in their simplicity that stuff like this can be made anywhere grapes grow. On the contrary, in this part of central Italy the vines enjoy a cool coastal influence keeping the acidity fresh and a rugged rocky mountain soil that gives the finished wine their hardened structure.
